Actually, it turned out really well! My first attempt was to use a different tool to get to HTML, which also worked out really well. But the step from HTML to Markdown wasn't so great. The final conversion was just with a single tool straight to Markdown and that was beautiful

How did it turn out? At first I read your tweet and thought "that sounds like a hellish task" but then I realized it most docs will probably convert better to Markdown than HTML
