Sorry to hear you had the same trouble, @Nick. But I’m also thrilled to hear that my facepalm story nudged you to try reseating the RAM again. It hadn’t really occurred to me that there might be a problem that extended beyond my machine, but if more than a few of us have had similar experiences, then it sure could be a design issue.
Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. Hope the machine serves you well for a long time to come now that you’ve got more RAM. Cheers!

]]>Jesus Christ, this must be a widespread issue with the top slot of Gateway NV57H, because I have been sitting here for an hour thinking what the hell went wrong with disassembly and assembly of this laptop, thinking that i might have somehow killed the top memory slot when I were cleaning off the old thermal compound off of CPU. But then i came across your article, read your story, saw your picture of the RAM slots and how the RAM sticks are seated in and in fact the top stick were sitting a bit further out of the slot than it should. I tried putting the stick in this same slot probably 10 or more times before i read your article, i tried to jack it in properly one more time and it actually got in. Never have I have encountered such a specific memory slot issue on a laptop, they usually always jack in easily and properly from the first-second try, but this laptop for some reason decided to give me a headache. Thank you for making me reseat the ram
