I also used the steverand modification above for a line break, installed Notepad2 (after trying Notepad and Notepad++), also check the “Translate backslashes” option in Notepad2 Replace, and Save as a new file (choose “All Files” not “txt” and append “.ics” after the file name)

This was the first article I could find that had an alternative to replacing STATUS:CONFIRMED with STATUS:CANCELLED, which didn’t work for me, even though the original import had UIDs.

You are a lifesaver. I WISH Google would develop an undo or a workaround. This was the perfect fix.

Dang! Sorry to hear you had the same trouble, @Nick. But I’m also thrilled to hear that my facepalm story nudged you to try reseating the RAM again. It hadn’t really occurred to me that there might be a problem that extended beyond my machine, but if more than a few of us have had similar experiences, then it sure could be a design issue.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. Hope the machine serves you well for a long time to come now that you’ve got more RAM. Cheers!

Comment on The Fix to My Laptop’s Dead RAM Slot by Nick https://www.epiphanydigest.com/2014/10/05/fix-laptops-dead-ram-slot/#comment-79022 Tue, 21 Jun 2022 12:23:55 +0000 http://www.epiphanydigest.com/?p=1192#comment-79022 TL; DR: I have exactly the same laptop and exactly the same issue, fixed it in exactly the same way OP did, never have I ever had such a problematic RAM slot on a laptop.

Jesus Christ, this must be a widespread issue with the top slot of Gateway NV57H, because I have been sitting here for an hour thinking what the hell went wrong with disassembly and assembly of this laptop, thinking that i might have somehow killed the top memory slot when I were cleaning off the old thermal compound off of CPU. But then i came across your article, read your story, saw your picture of the RAM slots and how the RAM sticks are seated in and in fact the top stick were sitting a bit further out of the slot than it should. I tried putting the stick in this same slot probably 10 or more times before i read your article, i tried to jack it in properly one more time and it actually got in. Never have I have encountered such a specific memory slot issue on a laptop, they usually always jack in easily and properly from the first-second try, but this laptop for some reason decided to give me a headache. Thank you for making me reseat the ram
